Here’s an exciting new opportunity for high school vocalists in the central region of VT.
The Lakes Region Youth Orchestra (LRYO) is starting a select choir this fall. The choir is intended to supplement existing school programs and to offer singers the opportunity to collaborate with the Honors Strings and LRYO Symphony Orchestra. I am including information about rehearsals and auditions below, and more can be found at http://www.lryo.org.
With the travel and correspondence issues following tropical storm Irene, we will be welcoming new singers this week. A second round of auditions will be held Thursday 15 September at 4:30pm, or by appointment.
Directed by Dr. Sherrill Blodget, Director of Choral Activities at Castleton State College, this ensemble offers talented singers the opportunity to prepare and perform quality choral literature from a variety of eras and cultures, in multiple languages, and to perform choral/orchestral literature with the LRYO Symphony Orchestra and Honors Strings.
Rehearsals beginning September 9th, 2011 will continue weekly, meeting Fridays 5:00 – 6:00pm at Castleton State College, with three scheduled concerts this year. Our Winter Concert is December 17th.
Auditions are open to high-school age (13 and up) vocalists for all parts (SATB). Participants are expected to be able to read music well and to work on their own between rehearsals as necessary. Please contact Sherrill Blodget at sherrill.blodget@castleton.edu with questions or to arrange an audition time.
Another very exciting opportunity for the choir is this years joint concert with the Green Mountain Youth Orchestra, scheduled for January 6th, 2012, with featured artist Elisabeth Von Trapp. Each ensemble learns the music throughout the Fall; we then spend the day in joint rehearsal at the Weston Playhouse, with an afternoon performance for area school children and an evening community concert. This is a great opportunity to experience singing with a large orchestra, as well as a talented professional vocalist. This program is made possible with generous support from the Vermont Arts Council and the Puffin Foundation.
