The Vermont Symphony Orchestra, upon the retirement of the VSO Chorus’s founding director Robert De Cormier, announces the following position opening and application process:
Position Description
The VSO Chorus Director is responsible for the preparation of the VSO Chorus for all performances, in order to support and encourage fulfillment of the orchestra’s primary mission: the performance of music at the highest levels of artistic achievement throughout the state of Vermont. The VSO Chorus Director will work with artistic and administrative leadership to maintain and build the caliber, composition, and morale of the VSO Chorus, and to expand public awareness of this statewide, volunteer vocal ensemble. A complete job description is available upon request. This is a part-time independently contracted position available beginning September 1, 2014.
Requirements
Masters degree or higher in choral conducting, three years or more of relative experience
including work with an orchestra.
Compensation Package
Offered on a per-service basis with travel reimbursement and accommodations.
Organization Description
Currently in its 79th season, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is a statewide organization that produces approximately 300 presentations annually, including full and chamber orchestra, choral, and chamber ensemble performances in educational, public and private settings. The annual budget is approximately $1.5 million. The Orchestra’s first-ever endowment campaign was completed successfully in 2011, exceeding the $3.5 million goal. Internationally renowned violinist, chamber musician, teacher and conductor Jaime Laredo is in his thirteenth season as Music Director. Currently celebrating its 20th Anniversary season, the VSO Chorus performs major works with the Orchestra biannually on the Masterworks series. It is featured on the Holiday Pops tour and often presents a stand-alone program during non-Masterworks seasons.
