September 30, 2015
Dear ACDA members:
The Mid-Winter High School Madrigal Festival will be held December 11, 2015, at the Unitarian Church on Church/Pearl St. in Burlington. Glory Reinstein (see attached bio) will be our guest conductor this year. The school participation fee is $100.00 + an additional $10 per student. Teachers MUST have a current ACDA membership to participate. I have attached an invoice to begin processing your school check in order to send it with your program in a timely fashion as well as the other information needed for the program.
Registration is 8:45-9:15am with the festival choir rehearsal beginning at 9:30am. There is also again this year, a teacher “meet and greet” breakfast reception- please arrive as early as you can (we know many of you have a LONG drive to get to us…..) so we can catch up! We will break for a bag lunch (please remind students to bring their own- we cannot provide lunch) at 12:30, then resume festival choir rehearsal until 3:20 at which time, each individual school ensemble will be given 15 minutes of on-stage rehearsal time and can then have some free time with their chaperone(s) to visit downtown Burlington for shopping and dinner on your own (you will be given a schedule of rehearsal times..)
The concert will begin at 7:30pm and usually ends around 9:30pm. Each school presents a short program (2 pieces). The concert concludes with the mass choir pieces. Please choose your repertoire carefully as we are in a church, not that the music has to be sacred. If you have questions about your own repertoire, please seek advice from a veteran colleague. Most ensembles perform A Cappella music however, there is a piano in the sanctuary.
Please talk to your students in advance of the festival about keeping the church sanctuary and the classrooms neat and tidy, as well as staying out of teacher desks and other things that belong to the church. We are lucky to have this church as our host and want to maintain a good relationship with them. Students should bring their own water bottles, lunches and snacks, and pencils.
**In an effort to get music in your students’ hands in a timely manner, please send me your registration information via email as I will deliver music (either in person or through the post) as soon as I know the number of student participants in each ensemble! Please try to take a few moments in rehearsals to go over the music with students before the festival.
Please send a hard copy of your registration application along with the invoice and payment to:
Aimee Bushey, South Burlington HS, 550 Dorset St, So. Burlington, VT 05403
If you have questions, please call me at school (802.652.7059). Please send an e-mail confirmation that you intend to participate. Thanks! firstname.lastname@example.org
