Conducting Symposium

All VT-ACDA members are welcome to join us for a two day Choral Conducting Symposium where we will explore gesture, the role of the conductor, and rehearsal technique under the expert guidance of guest conductor TJ Harper and our host choir, the Mill River Chamber Singers.
Each conductor will have 80 minutes of podium time over the two days and will have access to an extensive list of repertoire prepared by our host choir (sent upon registration).

I’d love to learn from Dr. Harper but can not commit to podium time. What can I do?
This symposium is open to auditors as well! You can earn 10 hours of relicensure credit or just enjoy learning from a master! Any time spent seeing others work and hearing critical feedback is time well spent.

What does the schedule look like for the two days? Do I have to attend both days?
The detailed schedule is posted below. In order for our conductors to learn and grow, and benefit the most from working with Dr. Harper, he has asked that they each have podium time on both days. This gives them time to reflect and come back with a renewed focus and questions on day two. Auditors are welcome to attend on one or both days though anyone seeking credit hours must attend all 10 hours. There is no split fee.
Any of the six conductors interested in receiving 1 graduate credit must also attend the 20 minute meeting on day one and the 50 minute morning workshop on day two.

I want to conduct! What do I do next?
We’re so glad to have you join us! There are only 6 openings for conductors so please fill out THIS FORM before filling out the registration (linked below). The form is due by March 15th and then we will let you know the final list of conductors shortly after. Anyone not able to conduct will be encouraged to attend and audit.

How much will it cost to attend?
$80 Conductors
$280 Conductors w/ 1 Graduate Credit (through Castleton University)
$50 Active Member Audit (10 hours)
$25 Collegiate Member Audit

OK, I’m ready! How do I register?
Register through THIS FORM. Remember to use the form above if you’d like to be considered as one of our six conductors. Once you’ve registered you’ll be sent an invoice through our PayPal service which you can print and submit to your business office or pay online at your convenience. If you are conducting, you will be sent a list of repertoire prepared by our host choir from which you will select a few pieces to focus on during your time with Dr. Harper.
